Slovenia Arts Camp

Read the latest news from the team.

This is the first performing arts camp of its kind in Slovenia! A team of nine Americans joins with David and Katarina Bordner of Josiah Venture and United World Mission’s Todd and Sarah Hunnicutt, and through the process of singing, dancing and acting, hopes to demonstrate biblical community to high school and college participants. With God’s favor, together they’ll create a variety show to be performed at a theatre in Ljubljana the last night of camp.

Our days will include show choir, urban dance with Chris McPherson of Disney, acting and drama workshops with Lin Sexton, art workshops with Pam Costin, singing lessons with Katarina Bordner, creative activities and theatre improv. Although many of the participants are not Christ followers, American black gospel music is very popular in Slovenia and speaks to the hearts of Slovenes, making it a great avenue for the Gospel as these students willingly embrace the songs. Getting students to tell their personal stories will be a centerpiece of camp – and the team will share their life journeys, too.

Partnering with Josiah Venture, and Eastern European youth evangelism ministry, this idea for this outreach was born during the 2008 New Hope tour as 34 Americans lived, traveled, worshiped and performed with 15 Slovenes for two weeks across Slovenia. Because of New Hope’s longstanding relationship with Slovenes, this adventure makes perfect sense!  Like New Hope’s goal, the purpose for this camp is ultimately simply to glorify God through being 100% who He made us, through sharing the joy of music, story and dance, and creating together.

The American team is:  Lin Sexton, Chris McPherson, Pam Costin, Connor Johnson, Hope Davis, Heather Costin, Jessica Costin, Katherine Bradshaw and Alicia Weltner. Camp begins August 15 in Istria and ends August 22 in Ljubljana.
