Membership

What is church membership?

Membership is a way for you to:

  • declare that you agree with the church's mission and vision.
  • commit to being a part of what God has called us to do.
  • demonstrate your intent to connect with this part of God's family.
  • acknowledge your partnership with other believers.

Would you like to start the membership process?

First, attend the membership classes. Class attendance alone doesn't make you a member, but it's a great way to decide if this church is one you want to join.

Where and when are the classes?

Upstairs in the Family Life Pavilion (ivy-covered building) just outside the elevator on the top floor in room 931.
Is there a class starting soon?

    How do I sign up?

Simply mark your communication card or just come to the class!

    Is membership only for adults?

    No.

Anyone age nine and up can become members of First Baptist Church. Anyone interested in baptism or membership should let their pastor know by either talking to a staff person in their ministry, marking the communication card on weekends or contacting the church office. Then ...

Children age nine through sixth grade meet with the children's ministries pastor. One or both parents are required to attend with their child. The pastor will talk with the child to find out where the child is in his or her faith walk, and then discuss the results with the parent. Together they'll determine the child's readiness for baptism and membership, and, if appropriate, will be enrolled in the next Membership Class. These are held on four consecutive Sunday mornings at 9 am. Typically, the child will be baptized on the next scheduled date after completion of the classes.

Junior high students complete a class that meets on a Wednesday night. It covers what it means to be a Christian, baptism and what it means to be a member of FBC. The junior high director will ensure the student is ready for membership and schedule them for the next baptism.

High school students attend a workshop that meets on Sunday mornings. Once the high school pastor confirms their readiness he schedules them for the next baptism.
